Care to Keep You Smiling

The best way to protect your beautiful smile is by preventing problems before they start. Most of the conditions that negatively affect your smile can be avoided with regular care. Dr. Jason Haigler and the team are committed to answering your questions about proper hygiene and providing you with the most advanced preventive dentistry possible.

Root Canal/Endodontic Treatment

Damage to the nerve tissue inside of a tooth sometimes requires a root canal procedure. Dr. Jason takes advantage of advances in technology and dental techniques that make root canal procedures more effective, while also taking less time. The procedure involves removing the soft tissue within the tooth when it has become infected and inflamed. Your Greenwood dentist gently removes the infected tissue and fills the void with an inert material. The procedure is completed with the placement of a crown.

Periodontal Therapy

Fifty percent of all adults have some form of Periodontal Disease (often without even realizing it). Periodontal disease is chiefly responsible for adult tooth loss, bleeding Gingiva (gums), bad breath, and receding Gingiva (gums). Truthfully, it is easily prevented with proper hygiene, home care, and professional treatment. If diagnosed in its early stages, periodontal disease treatments are easier, less invasive, and more effective. Your visit at Haigler Dental Care includes a complete evaluation of your Gingiva (gums) and supportive tissues. You will have access to advanced periodontal therapy to heal and restore your oral health.

Signs and Symptoms of Periodontal Disease:

  • Bleeding Gingiva (gums)
  • Bad breath
  • Receding Gingiva (gums)
  • Loose teeth
  • Pus around teeth
  • No pain associated with this disease until it is too late…

Tooth Extractions

In some cases, injury or decay damages a tooth extensively and an extraction is the proper treatment option to start you on the path toward complete dental health. Dr. Jason can remove your troublesome tooth and give you the treatment options for replacing that tooth and completing your beautiful smile once again.

Are you embarrassed about your smile because of decayed, disfigured, or discolored teeth? You may be a good candidate for composite resins, also known as tooth-colored fillings or restorations. When the decay has been removed from the tooth, it is replaced with “filling” material. In the past, amalgam (silver) fillings were placed into the cleaned-out portion of the tooth. With new advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored fillings instead of silver fillings, resulting in a long- lasting, brighter, whiter smile. The new tooth-colored material is bonded to the teeth for a stronger restoration.

Occlusal Guard/Night Guard

Many people who notice chipped or cracked teeth, but don’t remember when the injury occurred, damaged their teeth while they were sleeping. Grinding or clenching your teeth during the night will cause your teeth to chip, crack, and even break. To keep you from seriously damaging your teeth, we recommend a dental appliance called an occlusal guard, which protects your teeth from grinding and clenching in your sleep. Dr. Jason and Dr. Mary Charles take great care in making sure that you have a proper fit.

Oral Cancer Screening

As your dentist, Dr. Jason includes routine oral cancer screenings in your oral evaluation to routinely evaluate and detect abnormalities. Early detection is important. There will be 41,000 Americans diagnosed with oral cancer this year and 12,500 deaths. The death rate from oral cancer is especially high due to late discovery of the disease. The prognosis is more positive with early detection. A patient who does not seek regular continuous care from a dental professional is putting their health at risk by delaying a possible diagnosis in the early stages of oral cancer. We are dedicated to providing this potentially life-saving procedure for you.

Oral Cancer Statistics:

  • Deaths due to oral cancer equal one person every hour
  • Death rates are high not due to the difficulty of the diagnosis but due to a late diagnosis
  • 90% success rate if detected early
  • Three times more common than cervical cancer

Comprehensive Oral Evaluation

Dr. Jason will evaluate the health of your teeth, Gingiva (gums), and mouth. During this exam we will ask of any specific concerns and we will perform an oral cancer screening. The evaluation of the Gingiva (gums) tissue, including probing pockets and recording their depths for future reference will be accomplished as well. After your comprehensive oral evaluation, we will discuss any areas of concern we have found. If there are several areas of concern, Dr. Jason may request a separate time to carefully review the findings and to discuss a course of treatment that will fit within your personal goals.

Hygiene Appointment

Your appointment will include a professional cleaning from one of our Registered Dental Hygienists. In our practice, you will see the same hygienist at each cleaning visit so that you can develop a comfortable and trusting relationship. The hygienist will remove plaque (soft deposits), tartar or calculus (hard deposits), and stain from your teeth. The evaluation of the Gingiva (gums) tissue, including probing pockets and recording their depths for future reference will also be accomplished. After the cleaning, the hygienist will polish your teeth to a beautiful shine.

You will have all of your questions answered that you may have about the homecare procedures and products. If you have trouble choosing the right toothbrush or flossing effectively, your hygienist can help. Should you develop gum disease, which is extremely common, our hygienist will provide counsel and treatment to control the condition.
